About the role

Exciting opportunities are available for qualified Sonographers who want to make a positive impact while working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, and supportive team. We are looking for Sonographers who are passionate about delivering quality care to our patients. Positions are immediately available across New Zealand.

Depending on the role, responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

  • Performing ultrasound examinations: Conduct a variety of diagnostic ultrasound scans based on clinical referrals, for example abdominal, obstetric, vascular, musculoskeletal, or cardiac ultrasounds.
  • Patient care: Clearly explain procedures and ensure patients feel comfortable, obtain relevant medical history to inform examinations
  • Image analysis and reporting: Analyse ultrasound images to identify abnormalities and provide preliminary findings to referring clinicians. Accurately document findings and communicate with other healthcare professionals
  • Safety and compliance: Follow health and safety regulations, including infection control procedures. Adhere to ethical and professional standards set by the Medical Radiation Technologists Board (MRTB) and Health New Zealand
  • Professional development and quality assurance: Stay informed about advances in ultrasound technology and techniques through continuous professional development (CPD). Participate in quality assurance activities, such as equipment calibration and peer reviews
  • Collaboration and communication: Work closely with radiologists, obstetricians, and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated patient care. Coordinate effectively with administrative staff to manage appointments and workflow

About you

To work as a Sonographer in New Zealand, you will need to be a qualified Sonographer registered with the NZ Medical Radiation Technologist Board (NZMRTB) under the Sonographer scope of practice. Candidates with an international medical radiation and radiation therapy qualification can apply for registration with the Medical Radiation Technologist Board.

Practitioners need to meet competency standards and hold an Annual Practising Certificate (APC) to work safely and effectively.

Salary and benefits

Sonographers receive 4 weeks of annual leave, giving you time to explore our beautiful country and enjoy life in our diverse community. In addition to your base salary, you will receive reimbursement of your registration and practising certificate fees, with professional indemnity insurance covered by Health New Zealand. You will also have a minimum of 5 days of CPD leave per year, plus up to AUD ~$2,462 (NZD $3,000) annually towards CPD expenses.

The salary, leave and benefits of Sonographers practising in New Zealand are covered by either the APEX or PSA collective agreement.

Sonographers receive a base salary relative to their level of experience.

  • APEX 11-step progression scale: annual salaries range AUD ~$99,307 – ~$132,957 (NZD $121,000 – $162,000)
  • PSA 11-step progression scale: annual salaries range AUD ~$83,958 – ~$113,022 (NZD $102,298 – $137,710)

Individual districts may have variations or additional provisions under their collective agreements.

Vascular Sonographer – Vascular Health Group

About the Practice

We are a highly regarded vascular practice in Melbourne, led by an experienced vascular surgeon with a strong focus on clinical excellence, patient-centred care, and collaborative teamwork.

This role is part of a long-established and stable team.

The position is being offered following the departure of a senior sonographer who has been with the practice for over 17 years.

You will also be working alongside an experienced sonographer who has been part of the practice for more than 12 years.

Description

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated vascular sonographer to join the practice in a part-time capacity.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the high standards of scanning, reporting, and patient care that the practice is known for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality vascular ultrasound examinations, including:
  • Venous insufficiency studies
  • Deep vein thrombosis assessment
  • Arterial duplex imaging
  • Pre- and post-procedural assessments
  • Work closely with the vascular surgeon to support clinical decision-making
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and reporting
  • Contribute to a supportive and professional team environment

About You

  • ASAR-accredited (or eligible) vascular sonographer
  • Strong technical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and patient care skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, experienced team
  • Commitment to maintaining high clinical standard

Join Logan Hospital as a Consultant Sonographer and play a pivotal role in advancing Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) across Emergency Medicine. This is a unique opportunity to lead training, influence clinical standards, and contribute to a high-performing, nationally recognised program.

Your new role:

As a Consultant Sonographer, you will lead and deliver a well-established POCUS training program within the Emergency Department, while providing expert clinical guidance and contributing to service innovation at local, state, and national levels.

  • Provide consultant-level expertise to support complex clinical decision-making
  • Lead clinical governance, quality assurance, and accreditation activities for ED ultrasound
