Join Our Specialist Surgical Vascular Laboratory

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Vascular Sonographer to join our busy specialist vascular laboratory, working alongside a dedicated team of vascular surgeons and healthcare professionals. Our newly established specialist vascular practice is located on the St Vincent’s Sydney campus, providing state-of-the-art facilities within a collaborative clinical environment.

The Position

Commencing late August 2026. Full-time position, however flexible employment arrangements will be considered.

About the Role

Working alongside our experienced team of part-time sonographers, the successful applicant will contribute to the delivery of high-quality vascular ultrasound services for both inpatient and outpatient populations. The role requires a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, teamwork, and clinical accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a comprehensive range of vascular ultrasound examinations to a high clinical standard.
  • Produce accurate, high-quality ultrasound reports.
  • Identify urgent or significant findings and communicate these promptly to medical staff.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, colleagues, and referrers.
  • Work independently while maintaining high professional and clinical standards.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum five years’ experience in vascular ultrasound.
  • Demonstrated high level of technical.
  • Competence across a broad range of vascular examinations.
  • Experience working in a busy clinical environment.
  • Excellent time management skills, with an understanding of the flexible nature of patient triage and urgent case management.
  • Good computer literacy and familiarity with ultrasound reporting systems.
  • Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills.

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced sonographer to join the Maternal Fetal Medicine team at Canberra Health Services.

In this position, you will be providing clinical services within the Ultrasound modality, Maternal Fetal Medicine and Early Pregnancy unit at Canberra Health Services. You will use your expertise to exercise independent professional judgement to perform novel, critical and complex ultrasound examinations for inpatients and outpatients, including procedures. You will also participate in the development of clinical practices, procedures and protocols that support the continuum of care engaging cross-discipline referencing where relevant.

This role includes supporting high-risk pregnancies, allowing you to build meaningful patient connections while contributing to care at a significant stage in their lives, and gaining experience with complex and uncommon fetal cases with the support of an experienced multidisciplinary team.

About the role

Join our Medical Imaging team as a Sonographer supporting the delivery and management of a 24/7 Ultrasound service. As a Grade 4 Sonographer, you will provide expert ultrasound services across multiple imaging sites. In this role, you will support the delivery of a high-quality, patient-centred ultrasound service while contributing to the effective operation of the department’s 24/7 service. As a recognised expert practitioner, you will work collaboratively with radiologists and multidisciplinary teams, providing advanced clinical expertise and supporting excellence in diagnostic imaging and patient care.

As a Grade 3 Sonographer, you will be recognised as a competent practitioner in ultrasound, demonstrating strong clinical expertise and the ability to work independently. In this role, you will operate a range of ultrasound equipment contribute to a rotating roster with on-call, overtime and shift requirements, and perform imaging across all Barwon Health sites. The option for Sonographers with a current radiation license who are interested in maintaining skills and contributing to the radiographer roster can also be considered.

  • Perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations competently and independently, delivering high-quality imaging within required timeframes and adapting techniques based on clinical needs

  • Work closely with radiologists, contribute to a 24/7 service (including on-call), and recognise when to escalate or seek guidance from senior staff

What we’re looking for

  • Successfully completed a post graduate qualification in ultrasound (e.g. DMU or university graduate diploma)
  • Registered with the Australian Sonographer Association Registry (ASAR)
  • Excellent time management, communication skills, teaching, and professionalism
  • The Grade 3 Sonographer is a competent practitioner in ultrasound participating in the provision of a 24/7 ultrasound service which includes being available for reasonable overtime and out of hours recall
  • The Grade 4 Sonographer must demonstrate competence and expertise across a number of clinical sub specialities of ultrasound as assessed by the Chief Sonographer. They must also demonstrate leadership by example and experience and assist with ongoing education of Sonography students and Grade 3 staff.
  • A Grade 4 sonographer participates in the provision of a 24/7 ultrasound service which includes being available for reasonable overtime and out of hours recall.
