ASUMCare4U: Keeping motivated to move

Many of the ASUM team have noted they have enjoyed a walk on their own to give them space to quietly reflect in between churning out work and home schooling. It is wonderful to hear the RSPCA and various dog shelters have provided many homes with a loving pet, we hope this will continue to be the case post COVID.

Walking is a perfect way to get fresh air, get a free dose of vitamin D and exercise. There have never been so many dogs being walked and appearing on virtual meetings. Exercising with a furry family member is fantastic company.

Thinking of running but not ready to take up running just yet, pick up a copy of the inspiringly wonderful ‘Jog on’ by Bella Mackie and find out how jogging saved the author’s life. The book is an honest and refreshing read on how running can combat anxiety and depression. Bella bravely tells her personal story and shares her motivational tips including listening to your body and knowing your limits. You will be digging out those old trainers before you know it.

An app that may help you get started:

Free Podcast: Ease into 5K (if there is such a thing as easing in to 5K) using an 8 week staged program

For those looking at taking up the challenge a little more seriously:

Mobile App: 10K Runner – For less than $10 you can go from zero to 5kms in 8 weeks, then 5kms to 10kms in just another 6 weeks. The coach is so encouraging and the program maps and times your runs. Listen to your music and the coach will blend in.

At this stage the Olympics are going ahead in 2021 and we’re sure its not too late!

There are plenty of other options and ASUM does not receive any benefit from these suggestions but wanting to share what helps us. A quick search and you will find plenty such as Walk to run plan.
