Yayasan Bumi Sehat, translated to ‘Healthy Mother Earth’, was founded as a not-for-profit organisation in 1995 and is based in Bali, Indonesia.

Since May 2016 the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) has provided ultrasound trainers and medical experts each year to educate Indonesian midwives and doctors in basic point of care obstetric ultrasound. Held at Bumi Sehat Clinic in Bali to ensure optimal maternal care to mothers and families that generally come from low income households and remote areas such as Eastern Indonesia.

The belief that access to quality healthcare and to loving, culturally appropriate childbirth and care is a human right. When Indonesian midwives and doctors at the clinic are equipped with basic knowledge and skills in obstetric ultrasound, medical team members can better assess the health of mothers and babies, minimising unnecessary health risks.

The participants not only come from Bumi Sehat Clinic, midwives and doctors also come from sister clinics such as Rumah Sakit Madani, Sumba Foundation, midwives of STIKES (College of Health), and this year included midwives from Papua New Guinea.

Thank you to our volunteers for supporting this important Outreach work and best wishes to the midwives as they utilise their ultrasound skills to improve patient care and outcomes.
