Abstract
Thyroid diseases may present systemically with abnormal metabolic rate (hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism) and/or locally as palpable diffuse (goiter) or focal (nodular) enlargement. While the functional derangement can well be assessed by clinical examination and laboratory biochemical assays, the evaluation of the structural anomaly depends heavily on the modern ultrasound scanners which provide high resolution anatomical details of the morphological derangement.
