ASUM ASIA-PACIFIC LINKAGE IN MEDICAL ULTRASOUND - WHERE ARE WE NOW?

Dr Stan Barnett, Chair of ASUM Asia-Link Program

In short, we are on track to achieve our goals of developing professional collaborations and co-operation to improve skills and knowledge in the application of medical ultrasound in the Asia-Pacific region.

Background
The concept of an Asia-Linkage Program was developed with a primary objective to examine opportunities to create effective professional linkages within our region to promote the best possible standards of practice in the use of diagnostic ultrasound in medicine. This initiative of the Australasian Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) is supported and shared by our colleagues in other professional ultrasound societies within the Asia-Pacific region.
The provision of proper and uniform standards of health care is a major issue. The wider availability of imaging technologies creates demands for recognised levels of training and accreditation to ensure the continued safe and effective use of diagnostic ultrasound in medicine.
