CASE REPORT AND
REVIEW - STRUMA OVARII

Abstract
Struma ovarii is a rare tumour representing 0.3% of
all ovarian tumours. It is a germ cell tumour composed
entirely or predominantly of thyroid cells. A case
is presented of struma ovarii in a young woman which
demonstrates that the preoperative diagnosis of struma
ovarii can be suggested by Doppler ultrasound. The
characteristic findings of struma ovarii are a multiloculated
solid and cystic ovarian mass with vivid Doppler colour
flow from the centre of the mass and capsule due to
the hypervascular thyroid tissue.
