Committees

 

Many of the activities of ASUM are initiated through its committees. Members are encouraged to raise issues and offer suggestions to these committees.

Executive Committee: The Executive Committee includes the President Elect or the Immediate Past President, Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer. There must be at least on medical member and one sonographer member. It deals with ASUM business between Council meetings.

Finance Committee:This committee has the responsibility of over seeing the Society’s annual budgets and investment strategies.

Education and Annual Scientific Meeting Committee: The role of the Education and Annual Scientific Meetings Committee is to coordinate educational resources so that teaching and curriculum development is available to students pursuing ultrasound qualifications and to members undertaking continuing medical education. A professional standard of education will ensure maintenance of high quality medical ultrasound practice in Australia and New Zealand. This Committee also oversees preparation for major meetings.

The Diploma Examination Boards:The DDU, DMU and DMU (Asia) Boards are responsible to the ASUM council for the admission of candidates and the proper conduct at examinations and awarding the diplomas.

DDU Development and Medical Affairs Committee:this committee is a subcommittee of Council with specific responsibility for addressing any issues relating to the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound Examination and any scientific, educational or professional issues in relation to medical practitioner members.

DMU Advisory and Sonographer Affairs Committee:This committee is a subcommittee of council with specific responsibility for addressing issues relating to the Diploma of Medical Ultrasonography Examination and any scientific, educational or professional issues relating to sonographer members.

Research and Grants Committee:This committee is set up to identify any achievable research projects to promote the highest possible standards of medical ultrasound practice in Australia and New Zealand.

Safety Committee: is responsible to Council for providing authorative information to the membership of the ASUM and the Australian Government and public on the safety of ultrasound applications in medicine. Responsibilities include evaluation of the scientific literature and dissemination of information through publications, presentations at conferences and educational forums, and responses to enquiries. Members of the Committee maintain current knowledge of their active involvement in scientific and clinical research and participation in international research committees on bio-effects and safety.

Standards of Practice Committee: is responsible to Council for setting standards and guidelines in diagnostic ultrasound including many policies and statements intended as guides for practitioners. The Committee's goal is to provide guidlines for the performance of ultrasound in its various fields so that a standard of excellence can be achieved.
