CEO Update

Departure of Anita Tam

It is with sadness that I announce the departure of Anita Tam. A passionate supporter of humanitarian aid work Anita has an opportunity in the Philippines that she could not turn down. Joining ASUM as our CCPU and CPD Co-ordinator Anita has in the last 2 months been our DMU Co-ordinator. We wish her well on this new journey.

Membership keeps rolling in

Thanks to all the members who continue to join ASUM or renew their membership. Our numbers are continuing to increase - a pleasing outcome. The membership system remains open for those members who have not renewed or others who have not joined to this point. The standard rates are advertised on the website so if you wish to take advantage of membership benefits such as access to Education, EBSCO, AJUM, MOSIPP and CPD please ensure that you renew or join.

While we’re undertaking a process to update the information that we have on our members that does not stop on-line renewals. Renewing on-line only takes a few minutes and you are issued with a receipt almost immediately. If you still prefer the hardcopy, please complete the membership form and return that to us.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

At this early stage in the new membership year we’re pleased to see that the majority of last year’s insurance holders have renewed their policy again this year and that the process for purchasing the insurance has worked well.

The great advantage this year is that the Professional Indemnity Insurance can now be purchased as a packaged membership/insurance option.

Also for those members who have had the insurance in the 2011-2012 financial year, the policy is a ‘claims made policy’ which means that your cover needs to be current at the time of making a claim. Therefore, please ensure that if you have allowed your policy to lapse that we recommend that you renew your policy at your earliest opportunity.

The forms for the insurance can be completed and submitted at the same time you join or renew your membership, even if the membership component is completed on-line.

The premiums are a flat fee with the only additional fees being a broker’s fee and stamp duty which differs from state to state. The fees for 2012-13 are:

Employees - $125                                           Contractors - $265

Corporate Membership

Corporate membership is a cost-effective way of starting a relationship with ASUM. Conference updates

2012 ASM – Early Bird closing

A reminder that the Early Bird registration closes on 1 August. If you wish to take advantage of the discounted rate, please ensure that you register by 1 August.

The registration system will remain open after the Early Bird rate closes and ASUM members will continue to receive a discount on registration fees as will groups of 5-9 and 10 or more.

Refining the program continues and the updated program is available on the website. Workshops covering A to Z of The Hand, Paediatric Hips, Vein Incompetence, Upper Limb Arterial and Thoracic Outlet Assessment, Fetal Heart and the Lung promise to inform delegates on the latest information on these subjects.

Education update

Research Grants

A reminder that Expressions of Interest (EOI) applications for ASUM Research Grants are now open and applications close on Monday 3 September. ASUM offers up to $40,000 annually for industry research. Please check the ASUM website for regular updates. Successful applicants will be invited to submit a Full Application and will be notified by Friday 28 September 2012.

DDU enrolments accepted all year round

We’re pleased to announce that DDU enrolments can now be accepted all year round. The enrolment form will be available from late next week on the ASUM website.

ISUOG Training Course

A special invitation is extended to all ISUOG trainees to attend the forthcoming Basic Training Course. Aimed at entry level trainees beginning their career in obstretrics and gynecology, places are limited so if you are interested more information is available via our website or if have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with Aude and Christiane: congress@isuog.org

Located in the member’s area of our website – myASUM - members may use MOSIPP for recording your CPD points.

To access myASUM, access our website, click on the box 2nd from the left called “myASUM”, then using your user name and your password* log into the member area to enjoy benefits such as EBSCO, AJUM, MOSIPP and others. 

To enter items in MOSIPP, once in myASUM:

1. Scroll down the page

2. Click (just off centre of the page in the list of courses) on “Continuing Professional Development & MOSIPP (1)”

3. Click MOSIPP CPD Program

4. Click MOSIPP Database and “add entry”.

* If you wish to request a password, the system will email you a new password or please contact our Membership Officer Michele Short if you are experiencing difficulties.

Branch meeting updates

Canberra – 2nd August at 5.30pm in the Conference Room, Medical Imaging, Canberra Hospital.

Victoria – 2nd August at 7pm at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Radiology Lecture Theatre, Level 2, South East Corner.

The theme is Obstetrics, with Dr Meiri Robertson presenting Pathology of the Placenta, Tegan Sullivan presenting Prenatal diagnosis and Postmortem findings and Deb Paoletti presenting Interesting Cases. Each presentation will be approximately 20 minutes.

Opportunity in Fiji

Expressions of Interest are invited for an exciting opportunity for tutor sonographers in Fiji.

Fiji National University will be looking for suitably qualified and experienced tutor sonographers to teach and supervise several students as part of the newly developed Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (PGDMU).

The positions are located in the capital Suva in a dedicated unit in within the Colonial War Memorial Hospital and appointment will be by 12 month contract at the beginning of the academic year 2013.

Successful applicants will be fully supported by the University.

Position availability will be subject to final approval of the PGDMU by the university Senate.
